The Royal City
Guelph was founded by
John Galt in 1827 and is known as The Royal
City. Galt named the city Guelph after the
British Royal Family, as Guelph was one of their
names. Legend has it that John Galt put
his hand on a tree stump, spread his fingers,
and declared that this was how Guelph would be
built, flowing outward from the Speed River the
way the fingers on his hand flowed out from his
palm.
Guelph is a beautiful
city, featuring the beauty of the Niagara
Escarpment and the Bruce Trail that runs up
through it all the way to the Bruce Peninsula,
the
Bruce Peninsula National Park,
and Tobermory.
Guelph's motto is
Faith, Fidelity, and Progress. Guelph was
named as one of the top ten places to live in
Canada for graduates, career professionals,
families with kids, and retirees.
Guelph is situated
between the neighboring cities of Kitchener
Waterloo and Cambridge to the West, and Milton,
Mississauga, and Brampton to the East.
Guelph is connected by Highway 401 Highway to
